I gave a bit of an intro on who I am in my first post, but in the nature of getting this blog rolling, here are 10 more things I think are important for you to know about me and my life as we get started.
1. I’m a writer.
I’m starting graduate school at the end of this month to pursue a masters of fine arts in writing for children and young adults. My ALL TIME big dream is to write YA novels, mostly for teens and young adults 15-20. I want to write books about real things, big ticket subjects that are important for teens to read about but are often “taboo” in YA literature.
I plan to tackle things like mental health, sexual assault, feminism, and similar topics.
2. I’ve dealt with mental illness and sexual assault in my own life.
I’m generally pretty open about talking about these parts of my life and so I’m sure the topics will show up on this blog. Personal experience is a big part of why I want to write about it.
3. I’m an out and proud lesbian.
I currently live with my girlfriend and our two adorable cat babies, all of whom I am sure will make frequent appearances here.
4 . I am (obviously, I hope) a passionate feminist.
This doesn’t need any explanation, if it does… we should talk because in our society we really should ALL be feminists.
5. I grew up in Las Vegas but I went to college and now live In Berkshire County, MA.
If that wasnt the culture shock of the
6. I’m a movie enthusiast.
If I dont have anything else going on, you can BET l’m at the movies. ATT Ticket Tuesdays are the best thing to ever happen to me, honestly. New, old, scary, funny, good, trash, ANYTHING I’m down.
Also, accepting recomendations on a rolling basis.
7. I’m an athlete.
I played collegiate volleyball for four years, and played club and recreationally for about 8 years before that . It’s been a huge part of my life and has taught me some incredible lessons.
8. I’m a passionate practicer of self-care.
In the past few years of undergrad one of the best things I’ve learned is how crucial it is to take care of yourself. Ah even bigger part of this lesson was realizing that taking care of myself included more than just exercise and eating right.
For me, self-care Includes, but is not limited to: warm baths, face masks, fuzzy blankets, Kitty snuggles, nail Polish, writing, MOVIE MARATHONS (bonus points for Harry Potter), and shopping.
If you’re not treating yourself, START!!
9. I dye my hair-a LOT.
Anytime I show up to see my friends with a new hair color they joke that something must be wrong . But, I can’t exactly blame them, pretty much any time I go through a major life change (breakup, graduating, starting school, major stress events, etc.) I change my hair color.
10. I never have any idea what’s going o n and I especially have no idea what I’m doing [with my life or in general).
But, I’m figuring it out and have learned how to fake it pretty well.
That being said, I’ll probably post tips, tricks, and advice from time to time. It all works for me- but maybe take it with a grain of salt.
I’m an adult-ish and I don’t have a clue, but I’m doing my best- and that is finally enough, so here I am. You’ll get to know me better as we go and I get better at this whole blog thing (lets just say it’s not gong on my resume just yet).
